Department of Housing – Central Province

Foster Housing Construction

The Central Province, with a population of 2,558,716 across its three districts, is the second most populated province in the country. Although the Department of Housing continues to provide state-funded housing assistance to low-income families selected from 41 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Central Province, housing development in the region does not yet appear to have reached a significant level.

To bridge the gap in the challenges faced by low-income families, this program aims to identify financially capable donors who are interested in social service. The objective is to provide necessary support to selected low-income families to construct a house through the financial, material, or labor contributions of these donors.

Criteria

  • Low-Income Household: Must be a confirmed low-income family unit.

  • No Permanent Housing: The family must not currently own a permanent house.

  • Special Needs / Disability: Priority is given to families with members having special needs or permanent disabilities.

  • Permanent Residency: The family unit must be permanent residents of the relevant GN Division (Wasama).

  • Vulnerable Family Structure:

    • Female-headed households.

    • Widowed mothers with school-going children.

    • Families with female children.

  • Proof of Land Ownership: The applicant must be able to provide acceptable confirmation or documentation proving ownership of the land.

  • Social Welfare Beneficiary: Preference is given to recipients of government assistance such as Aswesuma, Samurdhi, or Elderly Allowances.
